It is prime time for cybercriminals to try and get their hands on your money and personal details by pretending to be tax agents, law enforcement officers, the ATO and myGov!

Your personal information is valuable so stop and think before sharing it with anyone, no matter how convincing the person or message may sound!

HERE ARE THE THREE WAYS TO AVOID GETTING SCAMMED

1. Always log into myGov to check your tax messages and be wary of emails or text messages.

Avoid falling victim by always logging into your official myGov manually by typing https://my.gov.au/ into your internet browser and not by clicking any links in emails or text messages.

2. Turn on the security code in your myGov account

Having a strong password on your myGov account is a great first step but adding a security code makes it even harder for a hacker to gain access.

3. Think before you click

Know that the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will never send an email or SMS asking you to access online services via a URL. Report any email or SMS and email reportascam@servicesaustralia.gov.au.
